Healthy Eating Plans: ACAI Berry – Health Miracle or Just a Bunch of Hype?
Healthy Eating Plans
If you have not heard about the anti-aging significance of the ACAI berry, you need to at least understand the enormous benefits this Brazilian berry can have on your health and quality of life. Read on about what many refer to as, the “miracle berry”.
There is a reason WHY Dr Perricone, the renown anti-aging expert, has identified the ACAI berry as the #1 Superfood on his top ten Superfoods list.
There is a reason WHY the University of FL conducted a clinical study on the astonishing health rewards of ACAI (see study below). And there is a reason WHY countless people are touting it as the “miracle berry” and WHY so many companies are now marketing this extraordinary anti-aging product. Some of the benefits of ACAI include, but not limited to: …….. ……..
- Increases energy, reduces stress and boots the immune system
- Prevention of osteoporosis
- Promotes overall wellness with highest source of antioxidants available
- Cleanses, detoxifies the body
- Improving skin tone and prevents premature wrinkles
- Healthy Heart & Diabetes
- Improves digestion and the prostate
- May thwart cancer by neutralizing free radicals
- Reduces arthritis pain through anti-inflammatory properties
- Weight Loss
- Enhanced Mental Health
- Youthful Appearance
- Improved Circulation
Now for my PERSONAL experience with ACAI. Soon after reading Dr Perricone’s book and his excitement about ACAI, I began experimenting with ACAI smoothies, ACAI juices and frozen ACAI berries (to make my own smoothies). My goal was to lose some weight , increase my energy and improve my overall health and well being. What I discovered was quite interesting. Although I found ACAI juices and smoothies in my local health store and started to drink one ACAI smoothie bottle a day, there was a problem. The dilemma was constantly running out of stock and going days without ACAI until there was an opportunity to make it to the local health store. And, even though pure ACAI juice was very high in antioxidant potency, it was costing $44 a week (would easily drink two pure 16 oz ACAI bottles) and again was missing my regiment of daily ACAI for several days
Therefore, not only was the solution to find a quality ACAI source but one that would not cost $200 a month and consistently leave me “out of stock”. As a result, I decided to go with a high quality tablet that was organic and also came from a “freeze dried” source. Extensive research revealed that a very critical component of the immense
benefits of ACAI is the commercial processing. In other words, how the ACAI berries are processed and distributed from the Brazilian rain Forests to other countries.
The most successful, but most expensive, processing is to freeze dry after harvesting the ACAI berries (see below ACAI vs Pomegranate for more details).
You can also watch the video to the right about ACAI in the news.
Meanwhile, one discovery has been consistent. Namely, the health benefits of consistently absorbing pure ACAI have been very noticeable. For the first time in 15 years I am able to control my weight much better, my illness cycles are far more infrequent and my energy has dramatically increased ( these days can easily get by with 6 hours sleep instead of 8-9 hours).
Read below an extract of the results of one of the first clinical lab studies for the ACAI berry:
“GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Brazilian berry popular in health food contains antioxidants that destroyed cultured human cancer cells in a recent University of Florida study, one of the first to investigate the fruit’s purported benefits
In the current UF study, six different chemical extracts were made from acai fruit pulp, and each extract was prepared in seven concentrations.
Four of the extracts were shown to kill significant numbers of leukemia cells when applied for 24 hours. Depending on the extract and concentration, anywhere from about 35 percent to 86 percent of the cells died.
The UF study demonstrates that research on foods not commonly consumed in the United States is important, because it may lead to unexpected discoveries, said Joshua Bomser, an assistant professor of molecular nutrition and functional foods at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.”
Pomegranate takes on Alzheimer’s
(NaturalNews) A new animal study published in the journal Neurobiology of Disease has found that dietary intake of antioxidant-rich pomegranate juice may reduce the buildup of harmful proteins associated with Alzheimer’s disease by half.
Researchers from Loma Linda University in California believe that Alzheimer’s may be caused by the buildup of plaque from deposits associated with brain cell death due to oxidation, called beta-amyloid deposits. Pomegranate juice, which is high in antioxidant polyphenols, may offer protection against the oxidative stress that causes beta-amyloid deposits. Hence, you can imagine the Alzheimer’ prevention benefit of ACAI which has 60% higher anti-oxidant potency than Pomegranate
ACAI vs Pomegranite:
Acai berries top the charts for antioxidant potency, but commercial processing may destroy nutritional content
(NaturalNews) New research appearing in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry has found that although the Amazonian acai berry has the highest antioxidant content of any food, certain commercial processing methods may strip the fruit of much of its nutrition.
Two studies led by Alex Schauss from AIBMR Life Sciences — along with colleagues from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the University of California and other institutions — examined the antioxidant properties of OptiAcai-brand freeze-dried acai fruit pulp and skin powder, as measured by the powder’s oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC).
Schauss and his team found that the OptiAcai product had a 1026.9 ORAC score, compared to an ORAC score of 155 for other commercially available freeze-dried acai samples. “What mystifies me is that the acai products we tested in the commercial marketplace had a fraction of the antioxidant activity reported in our paper for OptiAcai,” Schauss said. The OptiAcai product also demonstrated “extraordinarily high” peroxyl scavenging activity — the highest of any food researched so far — as well as high superoxide scavenging activity.
According to Schauss, the ability of acai berries to halt the formation of damaging free radicals could have profound implications for treatment of a wide range of diseases.
